Change Column Header on CSV Export Data: Units from "Active" to "CompanyUnit"
S
Sarah McDougall
In testing, I have found that it is the Company Unit setting that controls the output of the Active column on the CSV Units Export.
For consistency and making it easier to connect the dots between the QMS interface and the export, it would be ideal if the Active column header could be changed to CompanyUnit.
IMPORTANT: If this change is agreeable to the team, this means that the meaning of the Yes/No value in the column will be switched.
e.g. If a unit is Active = Yes, this means that it is Company Unit = No. Or if a unit is Active = No, this means that it is Company Unit = Yes.

Hi Sarah, April,
I tested this in the Stage Portal (Arizona Facility - A) and agree with April. The Active column does not seem related to whether a unit is tagged as a Company Unit or not. Additionally, I agree that the Active/Inactive statuses are not functioning as expected (e.g., units marked as Inactive can still be used for move-ins and reservations).
Here are my findings:
Unit A-0: Tagged as Company Unit – Cannot move in; Active status is 'Yes'.
Unit A-1: Marked as Unrentable – Cannot move in; Active status is 'Yes'.
Unit A-2: Marked as Damaged – Can move in; both Active and Damaged statuses are 'Yes'.
Unit A-3: Unit status set to Inactive – Can move in; Active status is 'No'.
Unit A-4: Default (no issues) – Can move in; Active status is 'Yes'.
I observed the same results when testing the same scenarios with Units #26–#30 in the Trial Portal (Orlando).

Export/Import Issue | Export: Units > Change Available from Yes to No > Import: Units Update does not yield any change in Unit > Setup

I found this issue while trying to test how remove units from tenant portal availability en masse. Right now this issue affects SafeBox, who wants to allow online rentals for units that are rentable but has over 1000 units that are not rentable.
To Know:
On the Export: Units CSV there is column Available, which is what controls whether the unit is available for online rental/reservation. Whether a unit is marked as a Company Unit is what controls whether the Available value is Yes or No.
Issue in short:
- Marking a unit as a Company Unit from Unit # > Setup serves to update the Data Export > Units > Available column value to No.
- This does not work in reverse. Manually manipulating the Available column value to No then performing Import: Units Update allows the CSV to be uploaded with no errors, but it does not change the unit to a Company Unit.
How I tested:
Here are the steps I took to test this in ACME > El Segundo:
- ACME > El Segundo > Unit C-101 > setup > Mark as Company Unit
- Units list > Export Data > Units
- Check CSV (ACME_AES_Units.csv) > Active column now says No for C-101
Exit CSV
- Unit C-101 > Mark as a Vacant Unit
- Units list > Export Data > Units
- Check new CSV (ACME_AES_Units (1).csv) > Active column STILL SAYS No for C-101
Exit CSV
- Back to QMS > ACME > El Segundo > Units, then HARD REFRESH
- Export Data > Units
- Check newest CSV (ACME_AES_Units (2).csv) > Active column STILL SAYS No for C-101
Exit CSV
- Reset C-101 to NOT a Company Unit: Unit #C-101 > Setup > Mark as Company Unit = No
After seeing the previous result, I tested to see if importing the CSV with Available = No will mark C-#101 a Company Unit:
- Open last CSV generated from Export (ACME_AES_Units (2).csv)
- C-101 is already set to >Active = No, I do not change this.
- Delete all other rows as no other units are being changed.
- Save As with a different name (ACME_AES_Units (2) - Unit C-101 Only.csv)
- QMS > ACME > El Segundo > Units > Import Data > Units Update
- Upload Units Data (ACME_AES_Units (2) - Unit C-101 Only.csv) > No errors > Click Upload CSV button
- Unit C-101 > Setup > No change to Company Unit as expected (still says Company Unit "No" with clickable phrase Mark as Company Unit)
- HARD REFRESH > No change

Sarah, I don't think you are correct here. I don't believe that the Active column has anything to do with Company unit is yes or no. If you go to any vacant unit -> Unit Settings -> Edit next to unit details you will see a slider for active vs. inactive. Set the slider to inactive and then be SURE to click save at the bottom. This makes the unit inactive, which, as far as I can tell, does nothing but does not seem to be related to Company unit. If you look at any 5x5 Storage unit in Acme -> Orlando right now (Vacant), you will see they are all set to inactive but are not company units.
I created https://dev.azure.com/KoBre/KoBre/_workitems/edit/12073 to ask the devs to fix Active vs. Inactive and also clarify its use case. I believe that if any unit is marked Inactive it should be unavailable for rental or reservation BOTH online and in the app. I'll change the name of this Canny report to reflect my findings but please do provide feedback if you test again and find your use case about company vs. active/inactive is still happening for you and we can review together.
